Lleida-based band Selva Nua have announced an indefinite pause in their musical activity, marking the occasion with a four-date farewell tour that will culminate on June 19 with a final concert at Razzmatazz in Barcelona. Humanity does love turning endings into scheduled events.
The band was formed in 2020 by Joana Jové, Adrià Garcia and Gerard Català, originally from different towns around Lleida, though living separately in Barcelona, Tarragona and Girona. Distance was not an obstacle, but rather an incentive, leading them to record a song during the harshest days of the pandemic, “Nuvolosa”, which, unexpectedly, opened a few doors for them.
Without particularly planning it, they won the lockdown talent contest organised by Cases de la Música. The prize was the chance to record an album, which slowly came together until they released their debut, “Momentani”, in 2022. It proved to be a genuine breath of fresh air for the local music scene, drawing references that range from Alice Phoebe Lou to Men I Trust, via Faye Webster and Yellow Days.
After spending a couple of years performing it live in venues and festivals across the region, Selva Nua released their second album last October, “I tu què fas quan no fas res?”, a work of elegant and sophisticated pop gently touched by silky soul, with distinctive arrangements, highly characterful bass lines, and intelligent, evocative lyrics. A singular sonic landscape where they have always felt at home, and from which they had already surprised everyone with their acclaimed debut.
